ROSELAND MARCH 14 A STATEMENT FROM THE POGUES

Post Thu Mar 15, 2007 12:06 am

The Pogues regret the late cancellation of tonight's show at Roseland, NYC. Shane MacGowan took an accidental tumble on a piece of stage equipment at the Boston Orpheum last Sunday (11) which required the band to slightly curtail their show. MacGowan's injury, though painful, did not at first seem more serious than that, but he has had pain and mobility problems ever since. As recently as 5pm this afternoon, The Pogues (minus Shane, as is their custom) completed a soundcheck at Roseland and, at that point, there was no prospect of cancellation. As the band were leaving Roseland to return to their hotel before the show, news arrived from Shane's doctor that the injury made his appearance tonight out of the question. We will update later with information about the remaining scheduled shows on the tour. Right now, there is nothing more to say except we wish Shane a safe and speedy recovery and hope we will be able to make good this disappointing development on another occasion.

I was there tonight and I speak for everyone there saying this was quite a disappointment.

Obviously hope Shane makes a speedy recovery and that he is back to his old self in short order.

As far as the other shows, I sure hope an announcement is made ASAP to reduce the burden for those travelling .

We would sure like to know what the possibility of rescheduling tonights cancelled show for Sunday?

Good luck to him with the recovery. God knows he's survived worse.

I was at the show in Boston. Shane took a tumble fairly early on in the show and seemed to be okay after. He was walking unsteadily both before and after, but my wife thought that was more due to feet problems than drink. Well, glad we got to see him and the Pogues once in our lives and hope to see them again. Good luck to you Shane.

We were really disappointed outside the theater to hear the news -- but really hope Shane's back up and running, as 'twere, soon. Looking forward to tomorrow if you fellas go on -- and feel better, Shane-o.

I hope Shane makes a speedy and complete recovery. By the end of Sunday night Joey was basically his legs, he was in some pain.

For you folks who were to go tonight, my heart really goes out to you. If any band would go above and beyond the call of duty to make this up, it is the Pogues.
Did the old songs taunt or cheer you, and did they still make you cry?

Yes, please make an announcement reguarding the remaining shows ASAP. I need to know if I should get in my truck and drive the 6+ hours to Philadelphia.

Please, please, please

All that's known at the moment is that the band are discussing their options with management, each other, Shane's doctor, and the promoters.

I have complete faith that once something solid is hammered out around the Roseland show AND around the remaining shows Philip will let us know.

I first heard a rumor about the cancellation on the LIRR. I tried contacting several people so that they could look into it, but as the train travelled westbound, my suspicions were neither confirmed nor denied. Upon arring at Penn Station, we decided to take the subway up a few stops to confirm the alleged report, as we arrived in front of Roselabd, my phone rang with a confirmation of the cancellation, but that phone call was no longer necessary. You could see the despair and frustration in the faces of the people as they milled about outside Roseland. I am disappointed as I was looking forward to this event for months.

I am wishing Shane good health and a speedy recovery.

I was just at the Roseland myself. Headed straight to Irving Plaza to exchange my ticket for tomorrow's show. Let's hope that show comes to pass.

As disappointing as this was, at least I was the subject of some unintentional comedy for the crowd milling about 52d st. I had a extra ticket that I was not able to give to anybody I knew , so I was offering it free of charge to anybody who wanted it. There were a few minutes of blank stares and sarcastic remarks before somebody bothered to tell me the show had been cancelled. (I wish I were just a little more observant.)

And to any Pogues on the thread...if, God forbid, Shane's not well enough tomorrow to play, I'D still go if you decided to go on without them. I'm sure you can throw something together, right?

Thanks for the update on tonights show. My friend and I got to the city early to secure our place up front. As you can imagine, there was quite a bit of confusion once the show was cancelled. No one really knew the reason for the cancellation except that something had happened to the lead singer. Roseland asked the fans to stand by to see if a determination was going to be made regarding the rescheduling of the show or refunds for the tickets. After spending 40 minutes in front of Roseland without getting any answers, we decided to leave for home. I am fortunate enough to have tickets for the remaing US shows so I am hopeful that the fate of the remaining shows will be posted ASAP. This is the only way to prevent the confusion that we had this evening.
Wishing Shane a speedy recovery!!!
