The Pogues Hate Texas

Post Mon Oct 16, 2006 8:41 pm

I apologize if this has already been addressed, but I was unable to find any information on the topic.

It's great to have Shane and The Pogues playing in the US again. I flew to Atlantic City in March and I'm headed to LA this weekend. I find it disappointing that there are no shows scheduled in the US except for coasts East and West. Is there a reason for this? I'd love to see shows here in Houston or Denver or Chicago. What gives?

That's fine - I'm moving back to Colorado after the first of the year, how about heading to the mountains? After this weekend I'll have flown to see you play on both coasts, give me a chance to hit the American trifecta and see you play away from the ocean breezes!

To make you look like less of a crazed hobo, I'll tell the people I posted something unfunnily goofy from "The Pogues" hating Texas*

Short answer: Too damn cold. (There's a lot of history to that answer. Read older threads.)

Longer answer: The Pogues are going where promoters that are willing to pay their fees are sending them. Convince the current promoter or local promoters to make a serious proposal and you might be pleasantly surprised by the results.

Of course I don't speak for the band, but this has been the general message coming from their camp in the past.

Ah yes, just read the long version in another thread with the Phillip Chevron quote. For the record though, Colorado does get nicely warm in the summer.

Yup! A heartland , a Mid-West, a Bible belt, a Deep South (you got a real pretty mouth, city boy), prairies, plains, deserts, just desserts, badlands, madlands, madams and bad'uns... in fact that land wuz made fer you and me, us and them, 'twas the proud land of our fathers it belongs to all that sees it, not to any of the others... let 'em go down in the mud... where the Big River flows to the shining sea...

I thought I avoided that unfortunate 'Fortunate Son' rather tastefully actually, good buddy.

There's a reason Ministry kicked off their 2006 tour in Houston - and what a great show it was!

Actually, the Pogues are Texas A&M supporters - but I love them anyway

Hate Texas? Nonsense, that's exactly where I'm headed when the LA shows are done. I love Texas. It cannot be held reponsible for its more egregious citizens, especially those who would be described in Ireland as "blow-ins".

To which part of Texas are you headed, Mr Chevron? I have relatives all over that damn state.
