Um, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm pretty sure I cancelled no gigs last year, in Birmingham or otherwhere, at the last minute or otherwise.

It was at the Carling Academy in Birmingham City Centre. I travelled up there by train and when I got there, there was a sign up saying cancelled.

I'm truly sorry to hear this. But we were never booked into the Carling Academy last year. From the moment we announced the tour in September, we were always doing the NIA instead. Honest. If it's any consolation, the reason we now play the NIA and not the Academy is that the last time we played the Academy, it sold out in hours, leaving a lot of disappointed Brummies. So I venture to suggest M'lud that if you did not have a ticket (which you didn't), you would not have gained admission anyway, if we were playing there (which we weren't).

The evidence for parallel universes grows apace.

There's really nothing I can add. Since 2001, the Pogues have only twice played in the UK when it was not December, and that was the London Fleadh in June 2002 and Guilfest in July 2005. Anyone who was claiming otherwise was telling you, not to put too fine a point on it, lies. If ever in doubt in future, check this website for the Word From The Horse's Mouth.

CovCityGirl, I think you may have confused the Pogues with the Popes. I know someone who went to the Academy last summer (to see Shane MacGowan & the Popes) only to find the gig cancelled at the last minute.

I did wonder about that Nico, but did not have sufficient information to suggest it. Thank you for rescuing my professional pride. And CovCityGirl, see you in Brum. I'm the goodlooking one with no hair who plays the piano-accordion. Enjoy the show. 8)

Yeah it was supposed to be with the popes in the academy 2 on a friday in june last year and it only got cancelled one hour before doors should have opened even though the reason behind it was that MacGowan was supposedly ill and so hadnt even travelled to Birmingham. Also the following day at the Manchester Academy was also cancelled. The Bham gig was supposedly 'postponed' and the venue refused to give any refunds until the gig had been officially cancelled about 7 months later.

Oh yes, as Mr C was saying, The Pogues NEVER do such insane cancelling of shows ever and seem to be promoted and managed in a far far superior way to The Popes.
