Nobody talks loike dat in Dublin.

But our tributary friend maintains an ancient Irish-American vaudeville tradition, best exemplified by the Nora Bayes hit from 1911 How Can They Tell That I'm Oirish? . Miss Bayes was born Eleanor Goldberg, illustrating that ethnic forgery is far from a new phenomenon.

I must say I sometimes like it. Some accents I quite hate like the Leopardstown and Blackrock (that's English) but remember the woman in O'Connelstreet selling flowers. That shouting hurts my ears

From where oim standing now...ethnic forgery, what is that really...no man can choose his place of birth...
Oireland is in me heart...the fact oi wasn't born there doesn't make me less Oirish than anyone else...further we go oi could remind ya all that greatest Oirishmen(at least oi think they are) weren't born in Eire at all...St.Patrick for example was of Roman descent...Shane wasn't born in Eire...whats in ya're heart, that counts...
So me "o" is me roight of an Oirish! 8) :D

We have to be cautious here all the same. I don't especially care who does or does not declare him or herself to be Irish but I drew the line at Ronald Reagan, I'm afraid. There has to be some quality control. I think we can all agree that, as Bill Clinton was the first Black president, so too was he the second Irish one.

My mother got a call from Nancy Reagan once. It was a wrong number. She thought this was my mum's fault somehow. My mum told Nancy to go fuck herself.
