Dranouter 8.8.2010

After the wild evening at Berlin, this was a bit of a disappointment. What a lame audience! Absolutely nobody moved an inch (until the band played "Fiesta" ). The band (especially Philip and James) did their best though, but they got very little reaction.

I have to agree with that. But I also have to admit that the beginning of the concert was a bit a false start from the Pogues. The first 3 songs, the sound was very bad, and the vocals of Shane couldn't be heard. Rainy Night was the best performed song of the evening, if you ask me, with a very focused Shane.

Nice gig, but one of the minor gigs I have seen from the Pogues (and that's ofcourse also because of the audience).

The audience - and indeed The Pogues - had just been richly entertained by Mr Solomon Burke and his guest Ms Joss Stone and we know when we're beat. Short of building a ginormous throne for Shane to sit on and have him pronounce at length on love and brotherhood, perhaps throwing in the occasional miracle for fun, I could think of no way we could follow that AND restore the audience's energy levels. We played OK though.

At last i get to see THE classic Pogues line up at Dranouter! I had been working at the festival, but by the time The Pogues were on stage i had already clocked off.Enjoyed the show,a pity about the audience, but a big improvement on their last appearence here in 1993, no Shane,no Spider,no Philip yet the audience responce that night was better then last night, funny old world!

And I also have to agree with mr. Chevron. Fantastic show of Mr. Burke and Ms. Stone. My expectations weren't that high, but the show was absolutely wonderful. And indeed the Pogues played well, nothing more and nothing less.

Just a pitty that Mr Shane could'nt wait till after the show to get drunk/wasted.
The rest of the band was wonderful!

Mr. Chevron,

Yesterday we had (the maybe unrealistic) expectation and hope, that The Pogues would perform Fairytale in
cooperation with Ms. Stone. That would have been really greet and could have lift the Pogues concert from
average, to good! Is this ever been a serious option?

Cheers!
Rob

We have not been introduced to the young lady, though Darryl appears to regard her as a distant cousin, what with her being from Devon and all.

Hey Philip, can your manager sing? At least, she looks at least even pretty as Joss Stone !!!

I think you must mean Ms Zoe Hodge, our current tour manager, who was flattered to find she has a discreet but devoted coterie of Medusans all to herself. I don't know if Zoe can sing but in any event, we have to give her back to Muse soon, so we may never find out. If I were her, though, I'd put "tour managed the Pogues and got out with my sanity intact" at the top of her CV.

Actually, the delectable Miss Stone arrived in our dressing room shortly after you left Phil. She stayed until we were all cleared out of the backstage area a couple of hours later. She was a great laugh, full of life, and we were universally smitten. Dunno about Fairytale but she was very keen to do harmonies on "Fucking on the Railway"as she called it. I'm sending her some records cos she's definitely not very familiar with our repertoire.."do you do any love songs?"

Anyway, many thanks to everyone who came along and had fun on our little European jaunt. Mark Addis & Zoe Hodge had us running as close to a well oiled machine as we'll ever get. High points? Driving through the Leidesplein in Amsterdam to riotous cheering, All night Dr Who sessions on the bus, Berlin, As for the begrudgers complaining about Shane taking a while to warm up, fuck yez all. Take it or leave it, no one's holding a gun to your head.
