I"m reading "Green Mars", by Kim Stanley Robinson, sequel to "Red Mars". I'm loving this series, for all the sci-fi, for the politics, and for the great writing.

Interesting to see a political system develop from scientists, esp. these days. There was an American comedian I heard a while ago, who was talking about global warming and other environmental problems. "Remember in all those old disaster and science fiction movies, when there's a crisis, and the President demands to see the top scientists? I don't feel like George [W.] Bush is demanding to see the top scientists..."

How's the book? It's in my line of study, and I'd like to read it very much, but would like to hear some reviews before I buy it...

If it's in your line of study, it's probably indispensable. Campbell is a thorough researcher and has form in this area. Besides which, it's a great read.

The author on this morning's Pat Kenny Show (RTE 1) about 1 hour 35 minutes in. Just after Dexys' "Burn It Down" ("Dance Stance")

Just finished Henning Mankell's The Troubled Man. A melancholy but compelling farewell for Kurt Wallender where the plot plays a supporting role to the main character and his landscape.

The White Mountains (1967)
The City of Gold and Lead (1968)
The Pool of Fire (1968)

I just bought this trilogy by "John Christopher" for my daughter who is an avid reader. I remember enjoying these when I was about her age. Might just read them again myself.

Written for young adults however many adults posted positive reviews on Amazon.

That series freaked the hell out of me when I was in the fourth grade.

I still remember vividly our teacher reading to us the passage about having the silver head band probed and tested to make certain it was still firmly attached. Geh!

Seattle is now in the 4th grade so I thought she would be old enough to enjoy this trilogy. I think I was in 5th when I read it. Just ordered the DVD series (s5 episodes)produced by BBC of books 1 and 2. Curious to see if this story still has the same charm 40 years later.

Not as bad as James Patterson and his blasted franchise! That feels like two a week!

Just about to read Simon Garfield's Just My Type. It's a book about typography. I read the first couple of pages when it arrived from Amazon, then got sidetracked and never finished it.
